Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform a variety of clerical support functions for the Elections Department. Work processes require extensive procedural and substantive knowledge of internal and external rules, regulations, requirements and protocols related to the work of the department. Among other duties as assigned, the Clerk III will:

  • Maintain various databases organizing candidates and other election details.
  • Test various election equipment and ballots.
  • Manage the Qualified Voter File.
  • Assist with election audits and canvass.
  • Assist local clerks, candidates, and general public with questions regarding elections and campaign finance.
  • Enter accounts payable.
  • Review Campaign Finance filings and process fees.
  • Stay current on election laws and processes.
  • Maintain State accreditation.
  • Order supplies.
  • Must be proficient using basic office equipment including a personal computer, phone, and printer.
    Minimum Qualifications

    High school graduate or equivalent combined with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience of a progressively responsible nature. Prefer individuals with 2-3 years election experience.

    Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact with diverse populations are required. Strong organizational skills, accuracy and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment are essential. Individual must have good oral and written communication skills, sound judgment and be able to work independently. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Applications.

    Unused paid time off in excess of 120 hours will be added to the employee's reserve sick leave bank up to 182 hours. Hours in excess of 182 will be placed in employee's retirement bonus bank.

    Paid Parental Leave
    80 hours of paid time off for birth of a child or temporary placement of the child for adoption. Eligible the 1st of the month following date of hire, runs concurrently with FMLA

    Shift Differential
    $1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 2:00 PM or later

    Weekend Differential
    $1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 11:00 PM Friday and ending at 7:00 AM Monday

    Overtime
    1 1/2 times regular straight-time rate for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week

    Merit Increases

    Tuition Reimbursement
    $365 per credit hour; maximum of 9 credit hours per year (see policy for eligibility)

    Enrollment first of each month with a minimum investment of $25 per pay period

    Mandatory participation in a Contributory Defined Benefit Pension Plan.

    Employees who retire under the Kent County Retirement Plan (other than a deferred retirement) will receive pension service credit for all hours in their Retirement Bonus Bank at the time of retirement.
