DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of CAD will be responsible for developing and managing
a team of CAD designers that provide professional and efficient
design/drawing services to RealTruck's Engineering teams located in
North America. This position will include the selection,
assessment, and management of outside design resources when
required, including those located outside of the United States.
In addition to managing a design team, the Manager will also be
responsible for managing our PDM system, PDM workflows and user
groups, administrating CAD software and tools, CAD data exchange
protocols and tools, maintaining drawing templates, and developing
and refining process maps, work instructions etc. within our QMS
system.
The role will have an oversight of the scheduling, coordination and
3D scanning of vehicles to support our Product Development teams
and will be responsible for 3D printing services for design
verification and mock-ups.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Management
o Direct workload activities for the team to ensure projects are
resourced adequately for on time delivery.
o Manage outside design vendors, both domestically and
internationally, to provide project support when needed.
o Oversee the scheduling, coordination and 3D scanning of vehicles
for reverse engineering purposes, keeping up with the latest
innovations in 3D scanning and maintaining and procuring equipment
as needed.
o Coach, mentor, guide, and provide constructive feedback. Provide
ongoing support to ensure the team is continually engaged and
functioning at its optimal capacity.
- Software Administration
o Responsible for working with IT to manage our CAD Systems
(Solidworks, NX, Catia) and our PDM System (EPDM). This may include
managing network license requirements based on staffing, writing
workflows to automate processes, and working with resellers to
quote new software tools, or upgrades.
- CAD Standards
o Develop and maintain standard templates and tools for all design
teams, which may include drawing templates, starter models,
standard part libraries.
- CAD Design
o May be responsible for creating innovative design concepts and
completing product designs in 3D and drawing release, per
engineering direction.
- Customer Interaction
o Support OEM teams as necessary, interfacing with the major truck
manufacturers. This will include utilizing Team Center on various
projects to exchange data.
- Problem Solving
o Lead and engage in trouble shooting with the team to develop
options for success during complex situations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or the equivalent education
and experience combined required. (Note: Highly experienced
candidates with associate's degree will be considered.)
- 5+ years of experience in design required.
- 1-3 years of experience managing a team required.
- Experience in CAD and PDM system administration
required.
- Experience with 3D scanning, cloud point and post scan software
solutions required.
- Experience with 3D printing and maintenance.
Required Licenses
- Valid government issued Driver's License (shop truck and
company vehicles)
- US Passport
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Possesses strong problem-solving skills.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,
TEAMS, SharePoint).
- High level skill in SolidWorks, EPDM required. Proficiency in
NX, Catia, Creo a plus.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Utilizes critical thinking to interpret and apply data and
information.
- Proactively identifies and resolves work-related
issues.
- Ability to use mathematics to apply arithmetic, geometry, and
statistics to solve problems and report results.
Travel
- Must at times be able to travel domestically and
internationally. Travel will be sporadic, but not more than 15%
annually.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, staffs, evaluates, and directs work of employees of a
work unit. Has direct reports.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position is subject to Light Work: Exerting up to 20
pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls
require exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work and
the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light
work.
Physical Activities
- This position is subject to the following physical activities:
crouching, reaching, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and
seeing.
Visual Acuity
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform
an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures;
transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading;
visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or
operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement
devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close
to the eyes.
Working Conditions
- Located within a technical R&D center that has a
combination of 1) an office environment with proper HVAC where a
private desk/cubicle will be provided, and 2) an indoor shop and
vehicle facility which is heated-only (Machine Shop, Vehicle and
Mock-up areas).
